At Heights Family Counseling we offer psychological evaluations for children and adults.
As therapists, we understand how hard it can be to watch your child struggle in school, with friends, or at home. We also understand how difficult it is to face unexplained challenges as an adult that make it hard to function day to day. Getting tested can feel intimidating, but it does not mean something is wrong with you. Instead, it helps us identify your unique strengths and find ways to support you or your child.
Our Approach
When we evaluate children, our goal is to understand the whole child. We do not just identify a diagnosis. We want to understand what makes your child who they are. This allows us to create a full plan for home and school.
We take time to listen to both you and your child, because no one understands your child better than you do.
We offer evaluations for ADHD, learning disorders, autism, emotional and behavioral functioning, developmental readiness, and private school admissions.
ADHD Evaluations
Common concerns we hear before an ADHD evaluation:
"Why can’t I complete simple tasks?"
"Things seem so much easier for other people."
"I know I’m struggling, but I don’t know why."
"My child’s school says they can’t focus, but nothing seems to help."
ADHD is common, affecting almost ten percent of the population, but it can have a big impact on school, work, and relationships.
Our ADHD Evaluation Process
ADHD is more than a checklist of symptoms. Many other things, such as trauma, anxiety, or depression, can also affect attention. To understand what is really happening, we use neuropsychological assessments. These often include IQ testing, measures of executive functioning, emotional assessments, continuous performance tasks, tests of attention, and working memory tasks.
You will receive a thorough report and feedback session, and you can choose to share your results with your doctor, psychiatrist, or school.
Psychoeducational Evaluations
There is nothing more painful than watching your child struggle and not knowing how to help. You have tried everything, but it still feels like something is missing.
Our Psychoeducational Evaluation Process
A psychoeducational evaluation helps identify your child’s learning strengths and challenges. It provides a roadmap for how to support them at school and at home.
We look at:
Cognitive and processing abilities
Phonological processing and fine motor coordination
Working memory and long-term retrieval
Academic achievement in reading, writing, and math
Receptive, expressive, and social language
Emotional and executive functioning
Attention and self-regulation
A detailed written report is included for your records and can be shared with the school.
We assess for all learning differences, including:
Dyslexia (Reading Disorder)
Dyscalculia (Math Disorder)
Disorder of Written Expression or Dysgraphia
Language or Social Communication Disorders
Nonverbal Learning Disorder
Comprehensive Evaluations
Comprehensive evaluations combine cognitive, academic, attention, language, and emotional testing to give a complete picture. This process helps identify autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning differences, and other complex profiles.
Autism diagnoses are becoming more common, and understanding is growing too. Many individuals find comfort in learning how their brains work. We know that being neurodiverse does not mean being disabled, but we also recognize that the world does not always adapt easily to differences. An evaluation can help provide insight, suggest early interventions, and guide support for school and home.
Our Autism Evaluation Process
We provide autism evaluations for children as young as 18 months through adulthood. The testing is customized for each age group.
We may include:
Cognitive and academic testing
Language and social language measures
Executive functioning and psychological assessments
Autism-specific tools such as ADOS-2, MIGDAS-2, GARS-3, ASRS, SRS-2, CARS, SLDT-E, CAPs, CAT-Q, and RAADS-R
We value your input as parents and often include teacher feedback when possible.
Psychological Evaluations
Sometimes people want to understand why they think or behave the way they do. Psychological testing helps uncover the reasons behind emotional or behavioral challenges.
Our Psychological Testing Process
Testing may include:
Cognitive assessments
Personality and emotional measures
Behavioral observations and interviews
Projective testing when appropriate
Our owner, Amy Rollo, PhD, is independently licensed to practice psychology in Texas and can provide projective and personality testing for complex clinical questions.
We often assess for:
Anxiety and mood disorders
Personality or behavioral disorders
Complex trauma and PTSD
Emotional regulation and coping concerns
Developmental and School Readiness Evaluations
A developmental or school readiness evaluation looks at a child’s cognitive, language, motor, and emotional skills before they begin kindergarten. It helps determine if your child is ready for school and provides guidance on placement, such as bridge or transitional programs.
Testing includes standardized measures, parent and teacher questionnaires, and observations of early literacy, numeracy, and self-regulation skills. The goal is to help you make confident, informed decisions about your child’s next steps.
If needed, we can provide referrals for speech therapy, occupational therapy, or early intervention services.
Private School Entrance Testing
Private school admissions can be stressful for parents and students. We offer IQ testing (WPPSI or WISC) for private school applications. If you would like, we can also provide feedback about your child’s strengths and potential challenges, as well as guidance on school fit.
Our Philosophy
We know this process can feel overwhelming, but we want you to feel supported from start to finish. Many families tell us that they finally feel understood after receiving results from our evaluations.
We approach every client with empathy and respect, whether we are assessing a young child or an adult. As parents ourselves, we understand the worry and the hope that come with taking this step. Our goal is for you to walk away feeling seen, validated, and equipped with answers and next steps.
