Lauren Applegate, Graduate Student Intern
As a counselor in training, Lauren brings warmth, insight, and a deep respect for the mind body connection into her work. She is passionate about helping clients build resilience, reconnect with themselves, and move toward a more grounded and meaningful life. Her approach is trauma informed, holistic, and rooted in the belief that healing happens when people feel safe, seen, and understood.
Lauren views each client as the expert of their own experience. She works collaboratively to help individuals better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and physical responses, and how these patterns shape their relationships, identity, and overall wellbeing. By increasing awareness of these patterns, clients are able to shift long standing beliefs, develop healthier coping strategies, and create meaningful change.
Her counseling style is relational, compassionate, and growth oriented. She helps clients identify their core values, strengthen supportive relationships, and explore their identity within the context of their personal experiences and cultural background. Lauren integrates Adlerian Theory, Relational Cultural Theory, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to support both insight and practical change, allowing clients to deepen emotional understanding while building skills that translate into everyday life.
Children, Teens, and Families
Lauren enjoys working with children, adolescents, and families, supporting emotional development, self awareness, and connection within the family system. She uses a strengths based, developmentally appropriate approach to help younger clients express themselves, build coping skills, and feel more confident navigating challenges. She values collaboration with parents and caregivers to create consistency and meaningful change both in and outside of sessions.
Adults and Individual Therapy
Lauren works with adults navigating anxiety, life transitions, identity exploration, and relationship concerns. She creates a space that feels both grounding and empowering, where clients can slow down, process their experiences, and reconnect with what matters most to them.
Background and Training
Lauren’s path to counseling began in digital design and marketing, where she discovered her passion for communication, creativity, and connection. This ultimately led her to pursue a more direct and meaningful impact through counseling. She is currently completing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and holds a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication from The University of Oklahoma.
She has clinical experience in a bariatric and eating disorder setting, where she has utilized Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and psychodynamic approaches to support clients in developing emotional regulation and deeper insight.
Lauren is also interested in the integration of neurotherapy and plans to pursue certification in neurofeedback through BCIA, with the goal of supporting clients in self regulation and nervous system resilience.
A Bit About Lauren
Outside of the therapy room, Lauren values connection and intentional living. She shares life with her high school sweetheart of sixteen years, their two young children, and their English Shepherds. She enjoys bringing creativity, movement, music, and nourishing routines into daily life and believes that joy is something that can be cultivated in both the small and meaningful moments.
