No matter what you’re going through or where you are in your life right now, I want to assure you that you’re not broken or inadequate. You are worthy. You are enough. You are a human being with a lifetime of collected experiences that have created and reinforced certain beliefs and reactive behaviors that have likely been protecting the most tender parts of you. While they have helped you cope in the past, those beliefs and behaviors can lead to difficulties in the present. We’ve got a lot to untangle.
Attachment & Emotionally Focused Therapy
I believe our emotional instincts and earliest relationships shape how we see ourselves and interact with the world. Together, we’ll explore your underlying emotions and your early attachment figures to gain a deeper, more tangible understanding of what drives you and influences your sense of safety and connection with others. As you get more in tune with your emotional experiences and your attachment adaptations, I’ll help you spot and deconstruct unhealthy patterns of responding to them (like withdrawal, escapism, eruptions, people pleasing, etc) and develop new, more satisfying ways of approaching life, love, and livelihood.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a unique and powerful tool that helps us identify and reprocess limiting thought patterns and beliefs. At times, our brains mistakenly register a perceived threat as a real and imminent threat, which can lead to debilitating emotional states. This might look like dwelling on worst-case scenarios or intense worries about the future. If these fears take root, they can result in crystalized and recurring beliefs about ourselves or the world around us that can manifest as perfectionism, high performance drive, panic attacks, phobias, or chronic anxiousness and hypervigilance. EMDR jumpstarts the brain’s natural healing ability using eye movements or taps to reprocess the original and related memories, so they lose their emotional charge and stop hijacking the present.
Whole-Body Therapy
I believe in the mind / body / soul connection, so it’s important to engage our thoughts, bodily experiences, emotions, and values in your healing process. When fitting, I infuse movement and expressive arts into our therapy sessions for a multi-sensory experience. Walk-and-talk therapy (integrating nature and movement), stretching, breathwork, writing, drawing, coloring, music, and creating playlists develop attunement to our body’s natural messages, activate different parts of the brain, and create a path for emotions to move through our bodies and be released.
Working Together
Personal growth and healing is a continuous journey, not a destination. Let’s sort out what troubles you by exploring your unique experience and tapping into your innate strengths. My role on your journey might look like a tour guide, mirror, cheerleader, empathic ear, accountability partner, blind spot spotter, gentle challenger, and purveyor of hope. My goal is to empower you to develop self-awareness, heal from past hurts, and find meaning, purpose, and direction for your path forward.
I value diversity, equity, and equality across our shared human experience, the thread that binds us all together, even in the midst of our differences. I want you to feel as comfortable and safe as if you’re talking to your closest friend while receiving a healthy dose of professional objectivity, insight, perspective, and support. Let’s talk and see if I'm that person for you.
A Little About Me
When I’m not in the therapy room, you’ll likely find me recharging at the beach, traveling the world, or playing a friendly game of tennis. I also love yoga, kickboxing, theater, concerts, and trying out Houston’s incredible restaurants. My family and our goofy pups keep me grounded, playful, and finding joy in each day.
