Therapy Intensives for EMDR

Have you ever come to end of your therapy session and realized you didn’t get to the issues that brought into therapy in the first place because life keeps happening and you have new stressors to process with your therapist every time you meet?

Do you need ample time to fill your therapist in on all of the significant events of the past week or two before you dive into your main therapy goals, like overwhelming anxiety, childhood trauma, recurring relationship patterns, etc?

Does your demanding work and life calendar (e.g. lots of work travel, impromptu meetings, busy extracurricular schedule) make it hard to attend regular weekly or bi-weekly appointments?

Do you struggle to shift out of “work mode” and into “therapy mode” for an hour, and then shift gears again to go back to work?

If you can identify with any of these scenarios, Therapy Intensives might be for you.

What’s a Therapy Intensive?

Therapy intensives are extended therapy sessions that last two hours and beyond, and may take place over one or two days, depending on total length. They offer the opportunity to maintain the rhythm of a therapy session that may feel unfinished after a typical 50-minute appointment, so you can go deeper and accelerate your healing and growth.

What kinds of therapy can you do in Therapy Intensives?

Most forms of therapy can be adapted to an extended session. If your therapy sessions are already intense, such as with EMDR or couples therapy, you may notice that the warmup and reset at the beginning and end of each session can take several minutes of your therapy hour. Intensives allow you to ease into the deep work and stay there longer to make more substantial progress before you have to transition out of your therapy mindset.

You may want to consider Therapy Intensives if:

§  Your brain and body work best by getting into “the zone” and maintaining your momentum for an extended period of time without interruptions.

§  You have a lot to talk through on a day-to-day basis, in addition to your big-picture therapy goals.

§  You’ve experienced a significant life event since starting therapy that needs your immediate attention.

§  You have difficulty getting away from work or personal responsibilities and would like to cover more ground on a less frequent schedule.

§  You need more time to access emotions and connect with your body at the beginning of each session.

§  You’re on sabbatical and want condensed, focused therapy in a shorted period of time.

§  You would like to gain more traction in your healing journey and make progress over a shorter period of time.
