When your child is having trouble expressing their feelings it can be hard for both your child and you as a parent. Your child may then respond to this challenge with behavior problems or withdrawal from activities or other people. This can make it difficult for your child to make friends, succeed in school or feel good about themselves. We understand that as a parent, this can be an incredibly painful experience.

You may find yourself thinking things like…

"I want to help my child, but I'm not sure how..."

"I wish I could help my child figure out what is wrong..."

"Other people see him/her as a problem child..."

Or your child may be experiencing things like…

• Frequent mood changes

• Frequent anger or aggression

• Withdrawal from others

• Significant nervousness around others

• Lack of control

• Behavior problems at school

As a parent, this can often feel overwhelming and incredibly stressful.

At Heights Family Counseling we can help by providing a safe, non-threatening environment in which your child has the opportunity for emotional expression, the development of coping skills, and the growth of self-esteem. We exercise different types of play therapy to help your child develop responsibility, decision-making skills, and self-control in a way that is fun and easy for them.

Different types of play therapy:

• Traditional client centered play therapy

• Sand tray therapy

• Expressive arts therapy

• Filial therapy

We will tailor our approach to meet the needs of your family and your child.

It is stressful for both you and your child when they have difficulty expressing themselves, but we are here to help you better understand your child. Help your child get started on the path to a happier life today.
