January’s Position of the Month: Arch of Arousal

A new year is here and so is a new position to try out this month! Here’s to trying our the Arch of Arousal this January. A sexual experience is a great way to get your blood flowing, as well as, it’s an opportunity to release the connecting/stress relieving neurotransmitters. As always, I continue to recommend beginning any sexual experience by doing some light stretching together to help avoid injuries and/or muscle cramps that might arise during a sexual experience, as this is still the most common sexual injury.
Ideally, you and your partner would try out the Arch of Arousal on a flat, supportive surface (most floor surfaces will work). This position is quite adventurous so this will require some willingness, trust, and/or some pillows for possible support. The penetrating partner will stand with a wide, supportive stance. The partner being penetrated will be in an adjusted back bend. Their legs will be wrapped around the penetrating partner’s waist, they will lean back, and then place their hands on the floor in order to support their self (in an adjusted backbend). The penetrating partner will help support their partner by holding on to their waist with both hands. Once penetration has occurred, be sure to communicate verbally and nonverbally about what feels pleasurable or what needs adjusting; communication is very important for the difficulty and flexibility of this position. Due to the difficulty of this position, you might consider placing a couple of pillows under the partner being penetrated, in the case that this partner might fall during the experience. After the two of you have tired from this position, the partner being penetrated can lift up (with the help of their partner, if needed) and continue the sexual experience while being held by up by their partner.
For the penetrating partner, this position will work their lats, glutes, and quads. For the partner being penetrated, this position will work their deltoids, arms, core, and adductors. It is recommended to try this position out for 1 to 5 minutes.
