Elisa Colera, M.Ed., LPC

As a counselor, I believe deeply in the strength, resilience, and capacity for growth within each person. I understand that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, and I strive to create a space that is safe, compassionate, and free of judgment. I view therapy as a collaborative process and feel honored to walk alongside my clients as they work toward healing, clarity, and meaningful change.

Therapy for men, women & Young Adults

There is something incredibly powerful about feeling truly seen and understood. My approach is warm, authentic, and down-to-earth, and I meet each client where they are while gently guiding them toward growth. I work primarily with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, identity development, and life transitions.

Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, or disconnected from themselves. Together, we work to explore emotions, shift unhelpful thought patterns, and build healthier, more aligned ways of living. I believe that many struggles are rooted in beliefs we’ve learned over time, and therapy can be a space to unlearn what no longer serves you and reconnect with your authentic self.

Trauma & EMDR

I have extensive experience working with individuals who have experienced domestic violence, sexual trauma, and relational wounds. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidence-based approach that helps process and heal from distressing experiences.

My work often focuses on helping clients understand how past experiences—especially family of origin dynamics—shape current relationships, self-worth, and emotional responses. Through trauma-informed care, I support clients in moving from survival mode into a place of greater safety, confidence, and emotional freedom.

Neurodivergent & LGBTQ+ Affirming Care

I am passionate about working with neurodivergent clients and provide a neurodiversity-affirming approach that honors each person’s unique way of thinking and experiencing the world. I am also proudly LGBTQ+ affirming, and I strive to create a space where clients feel fully supported in exploring identity, relationships, and self-expression.

Couples & Relationship Work

Relationships can be both deeply meaningful and incredibly challenging. I help couples improve communication, navigate conflict, and better understand each other’s emotional needs. I incorporate Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 2 trained) to support couples in building stronger, more connected relationships.

I also enjoy working with couples preparing for marriage as a Prepare and Enrich Facilitator, helping them build a solid foundation and reduce future conflict.

My Approach

My therapeutic style is eclectic and tailored to each client, drawing from a range of modalities, including:

  • EMDR

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Person-Centered Therapy

My goal is to help clients develop effective coping strategies, emotional insight, and a stronger sense of self, so they can move forward with confidence and clarity.

A Bit About Me

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy exercising, traveling, learning about different cultures, and spending time with loved ones and my dog. Having moved frequently as a child, I developed a deep appreciation for diverse experiences and perspectives, and I have happily called Houston home since 2014.
