A Warm, Developmental Approach to Therapy

I believe every child has an innate capacity for growth, connection, and resilience when they are given a space where they feel truly seen, understood, and valued.

Children are so much more than a diagnosis, behavior, or presenting concern. Their emotions, relationships, developmental experiences, environments, and individual ways of experiencing the world all shape who they are.

My goal is to understand the whole child.

I work collaboratively with children and families to create a therapeutic environment that feels safe, playful, supportive, and authentic. Whether a child is navigating anxiety, ADHD, autism, friendship challenges, big emotions, behavioral concerns, or a major life transition, I want therapy to be a place where they can build confidence, better understand themselves, and develop skills that extend beyond the therapy room.

Therapy for Children and Families

Children don't always have the words to explain what they're experiencing. Sometimes they communicate through behavior. Sometimes through play. Sometimes through shutting down, becoming overwhelmed, or struggling in relationships.

My approach is grounded in developmental psychology, play therapy, and child centered principles.

Through play, creativity, conversation, and developmentally appropriate interventions, I help children strengthen:

  • Emotional awareness and regulation

  • Coping skills

  • Confidence and self esteem

  • Frustration tolerance

  • Problem solving

  • Communication

  • Social and relationship skills

  • Flexibility during transitions

When appropriate, I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, to help children understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while developing practical tools for navigating challenges.

My work is also informed by interpersonal neurobiology, or IPNB, which recognizes the powerful relationship between our brains, our experiences, and our connections with others. I believe healing happens within safe relationships, and the therapeutic relationship is an important part of helping children feel secure enough to explore, grow, and try new things.

ADHD, Autism, and Neurodivergent Children

I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent children and their families.

Before joining Heights Family Counseling, my clinical training included providing individual and group therapy to children with ADHD and autism, using play therapy to support emotional regulation and social development, and helping children develop coping strategies for anxiety, frustration, and transitions.

I take a strengths based and neurodiversity affirming approach. The goal of therapy isn't to change who a child is or teach them to simply appear more neurotypical. Instead, I help children better understand themselves, build skills for areas that feel difficult, recognize their strengths, and develop greater confidence in navigating their world.

I also recognize that supporting a child often means supporting the adults around them. I enjoy partnering with parents and caregivers to better understand behavior, emotional regulation, developmental needs, and strategies that can support the child at home.

School, Social, and Peer Challenges

School is a significant part of a child's world, and difficulties there can affect everything from confidence to family relationships.

My experience includes providing school based play therapy, developing social emotional learning lessons, facilitating groups for children with special educational needs, providing crisis support, and collaborating with parents and school professionals to develop supportive interventions.

I enjoy helping children who struggle with friendships, social confidence, school anxiety, transitions, emotional regulation, or simply finding where they fit.

Because I understand both the therapeutic and school environments, I can also collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals when appropriate to help children experience greater consistency and support across settings.

Expressive Arts and Play Therapy

Before becoming a therapist, I earned my bachelor's degree in Art History and Criticism from the University of Texas at Austin.

That background continues to influence the way I approach therapy today.

Not every experience can easily be put into words, particularly for children. Play, art, creativity, and imagination can give clients another way to communicate and make sense of their experiences.

I incorporate expressive arts and play therapy techniques when appropriate, allowing therapy to meet children where they are rather than expecting them to process their world like adults.

Therapy for Teens and Adults

While children and families are a significant focus of my work, I also enjoy working with adolescents and adults.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and person centered. I draw from CBT, mindfulness based strategies, interpersonal neurobiology, and existential perspectives depending on each client's individual needs.

I support clients experiencing:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Stress and overwhelm

  • Relationship challenges

  • Life transitions

  • Identity concerns

  • Trauma

  • Parenting challenges

My goal is to create a space where clients can slow down, understand patterns that may be keeping them stuck, and develop practical tools while also exploring the deeper experiences shaping how they relate to themselves and others.

Perinatal Mental Health and Parenthood

I have a particular interest in supporting women and families through pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition into parenthood.

Becoming a parent can bring enormous joy while simultaneously changing nearly every aspect of life.

Identity.

Relationships.

Your body.

Your priorities.

Your sense of yourself.

Those changes can be beautiful, overwhelming, disorienting, and sometimes grief laden all at once.

I strive to create a space where parents can talk openly about the full experience of pregnancy, postpartum life, and parenthood, including the feelings that may be difficult to say out loud.

Couples and Relationship Therapy

I also work with couples who want to strengthen communication, better understand one another, and shift patterns that leave them feeling disconnected or stuck.

My relational and developmental perspective helps couples explore not only what is happening during conflict, but also the experiences, attachment patterns, and emotional needs underneath it.

Together, we work toward healthier communication, greater emotional awareness, and stronger connection.

Outside the Office

When I'm not in session, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two children. As a family, we love exploring the outdoors, traveling, discovering new places, and taking advantage of Houston's incredible and diverse food scene.

In my free time, you can often find me browsing local thrift stores, running on the trails, or curled up in a quiet corner with a good book.

For me, those everyday moments of creativity, connection, curiosity, and exploration are an important part of staying grounded, and many of those same values naturally find their way into how I approach my work with clients.
