February Position of the Month: Star-Crossed Lovers

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, February’s highlighted position of the month is a befitting Star-Crossed Lovers.  Remember, a sexual experience is a time to emotionally connect with one another, but it is also a great time to get your blood pumping and release some physical energy together.  As always, before initiating a sexual experience, I highly recommend doing some light stretching together to help avoid injuries and/or muscle cramps that might arise during a sexual experience (this is also a great practice to integrate into your daily life).

Heads up - The Star-Crossed Lovers is a position that will get definitely give you both a workout!  Ideally, you and your partner might try out this position on a soft surface, like a bed, or you could also try it on the floor if you both desire a harder surface for support.  The penetrating partner will get into reverse plank pose (visual).  The partner that is being penetrated will straddle their partner (facing their partner’s feet), as though you were preparing to make a wide-leg push up.  The partner being penetrated will likely have to bend their knees slightly in order to get into a position they desire for penetration.  This partner, will then lower themselves over their partner’s penis or strap-on.  I highly recommend that the two of you play with your pelvic tilts and what angle feels most pleasurable (here is a great chance to communicate well with one another).  Because both partners will be largely supporting themselves with their hands, comfortable hand placement will be very important to consider with this exercise.

Once penetration has occurred, the two of you will rock back and forth to create a thrusting pace that is pleasurable for all.  Start out slowly and then increase movement as you both feel and express comfortability.  For the penetrating partner, this position will work their deltoids, arms, chest, back extensors, core, and glutes.  For the partner being penetrated (straddling on top), this position will work their deltoids, arms, chest, and core.  Be mindful that this position will require a bit more flexibility of the penetrating partner, than the partner being penetrated.

As described above, this position can be utilized by heterosexual or lesbian couples (using a strap on).  In order for gay couples to make use of this position, the partner that is being penetrated will need to flip their body into reverse plank, rather than what is described above!

Since this position is quite the workout, it is only recommended to hold for 1 to 5 minutes.  I would also highly recommend being conscious of foreplay and be sure to have lubrication on hand.  Lubrication can be especially important when trying out a new position that is not routine for you both; plus, it is always nice to have lubrication be a grab away, versus realizing you are completely out!

Here’s to trying out something new this February, and maybe even holding out for some Valentine’s Day fun!  More information for this specific position (including a visual image) can be found on page 356-357 of The Kama Sutra Workout, and this book can be purchased from Amazon here.
