Easing the Transition Back to Normal For Children
Written by Michele Kamerman, M.A., LPC, RPT, CCATP
Think back to March 2020. Schools shut down and offices closed. Restaurants provided to-go orders only, activities and parties canceled, and social isolation. Since then, we have found ourselves transitioning to a new normal. Virtual school, online appointments, and tons of hand sanitizer. Oh, and don't forget the Lysol spray, face masks, and continued social isolation. I never thought we would ever become used to our new way of life. But, it has started to become comfortable for most people and many children. In fact, it has offered gifts in some ways. As offices open and children return to in-person school, we find ourselves returning to life before COVID. Many people are thrilled! Yet, it’s also normal to feel heightened anxiety about the transition. Not only is it hard on adults, but also very hard on many kids as well. The COVID world has become their normal. It can feel scary to go back into in-person school and normal activities like before. What should parents do?
