October Position of the Month: A Tight Hold

Written by Katie Mitchell, M.A., NCC, CST, LPC

October’s highlighted position of the month is the A Tight Hold.  As a continued healthy sex practice, please be intentional about washing your hands and using the restroom before and after a sexual experience.  If it helps you both to feel more comfortable, and in the mood, start your shared sexual experience by taking a shower together.  Remember, a sexual experience is a great way to get your blood flowing.  A sexual experience will also release Oxytocin and other beneficial endorphins that will help you both feel bonded to one another, as well as release stress/tension.  In addition to keeping healthy sex practices in mind, I also recommend beginning any sexual experience by doing some light stretching together to help avoid injuries and/or muscle cramps that might arise during a sexual experience, as this is still the most common sexual injury.

Ideally, you and your partner would try out the A Tight Hold atop a soft, supportive surface or atop of a soft blanket on the floor.  The penetrating partner will lie flat on their back.  While, the partner being penetrated will sit on top of their partner in a position similar to the yoga boat pose.  Thus, the partner being penetrated will lean back on their glutes, engaging their core, and lifting their legs into the air (similar to a static crunch).  The penetrating partner’s feet will also point towards their partner’s head.  Both partners will hold onto each other’s forearms in order to help support one another, as well as, aid in remaining stable during penetration.  A Tight Hold is a slow and sensual position; thus, the two partners will have to work together in order to create a pleasurable penetrative experience.  Be sure to communicate verbally/nonverbally about what feels pleasurable or what needs adjusting.

For the penetrating partner, this position will work their biceps, lats, and glutes.  For the partner being penetrated, this position will work their arms, abdominals, and hip flexors.  It is recommended to try this position out for 1 to 5 minutes.

Here’s to carving out a moaning-good time with your partner this spooky season!  For more information on the A Tight Hold (including image) can be found on pages 110-111 of The Kama Sutra Workout, and this book can be purchased from Amazon here.
